Definitions
- Uterine fundus: Located above the insertion of the fallopian tubes.
- Uterine body (Corpus): The largest and central segment of the uterus, extending from the uterine fundus to the isthmus.
- Uterine cervix: The inferior segment that projects into the vagina.

Uterine cornua: The superolateral angle of the uterine fundus (it is not the fallopian tube, although the interstitial segment of the tube passes through it).
Endometrium: The mucosal lining of the uterine cavity. It consists of the functional layer (functionalis) and the basal layer (basalis).
Myometrium: The smooth muscle layer of the uterine wall.

Perimetrium (Serosa): The outermost layer of the uterine wall, also referred to as the visceral peritoneum.
Junctional Zone (Inner Myometrium): Located immediately beneath the endometrium (subendometrial). It may be poorly defined during puberty, post-menopause, or in patients undergoing hormonal therapy

Uterine cervix: A subperitoneal structure surrounded by the parametrium.
Parametrium: The connective tissue lateral to the uterine cervix (containing vessels, nerves, and lymphatics).
Paracervix: A broader term referring to the connective tissue that surrounds the cervix laterally, anteriorly, and posteriorly.
